Case Study Archives: Using Identity as cost-saving tool
BrandLogic was challenged by IBM to develop an identity for the company’s new human resources spin-off. Even more daunting: The new business had virtually no budget for professionally designed collateral.
Given only a “blocks” logo designed by the late Paul Rand (designer of the IBM logo), BrandLogic developed a striking system that eliminated the need for design by incorporating three key items: a unique color palette, logo blocks and an illustration “mural” (shown here with typical croppings).
The mural depicted situations relating to human-resource issues. It was designed to be cropped and enlarged in virtually any way to create graphically strong images.
Cropped details from the mural combined with template layouts for posters, brochures, and other collateral enabled Employment Solutions to create a wide range of marketing material extremely economically. The design required only two color printing, and was designed to be printed on low-priced paper stock.
